Mammoth Minerals Strikes Gold in Nevada: High-Grade Results Validate Targeting Strategy at Excelsior Project

The gold discovery by Mammoth Minerals Ltd has delivered impressive initial results from its maiden diamond drilling campaign at the Excelsior Gold Project in Nevada. The Australian Securities Exchange-listed company (ASX: M79) has successfully intersected multiple shallow, high-grade gold zones within the prolific Buster Mine Trend, confirming the effectiveness of its geological targeting model developed from extensive historical data analysis.

The standout results include 14.4m at 4.33g/t Au from 117m in drill hole MEXDD004, featuring spectacular high-grade zones of 3.1m at 19.10g/t Au and 0.95m at 15.98g/t Au. Furthermore, additional results from MEXDD001 delivered 25.5m at 1.05g/t Au from 35.45m, including 0.55m at 26.7g/t Au, while testing the area between historic underground workings that previously produced 19,000 ounces at 41g/t Au.

Drilling Results Exceed Expectations and Validate Geological Model

The initial three diamond drill holes have successfully intersected mineralisation where Mammoth's targeting model predicted, providing strong validation for the company's geological interpretation developed from 14.5km of historical drilling data. This comprehensive approach has enabled work to commence on the project's inaugural Mineral Resource Estimate and Exploration Target.

    Key Results Summary:

Drill Hole Significant Intercept High-Grade Zones
    MEXDD004 14.4m at 4.33g/t Au from 117m 3.1m at 19.10g/t Au from 119.36m
    MEXDD001 25.5m at 1.05g/t Au from 35.45m 0.55m at 26.7g/t Au
    MEXDD006* 3.4m at 1.05g/t Au from 203.6m 0.82m at 2.64g/t Au from 187.18m

*MEXDD006 dropped in dip and missed the target model yet still intersected mineralisation

We developed a targeting model based on the vast historical drilling database, which includes 14.5km of drilling, geophysics, mapping and sampling. We tested this model by drilling extensional targets beyond the existing drilling in two instances – and in both cases drilling has intersected shallow, high-grade mineralisation, extending the known mineralised envelope, which remains open, said Managing Director Glenn Poole.

Understanding Mineralised Shoots: The Key to Excelsior's Potential

Mineralised shoots are continuous zones of ore-grade material that follow specific geological structures or controls. At Excelsior, these shoots are interpreted as steeply south-dipping zones that contain the highest concentrations of gold mineralisation. Consequently, these shoots represent predictable, geological-controlled zones that can be systematically targeted and potentially mined.

For investors, understanding mineralised shoots is crucial because they indicate predictable grade continuity that supports resource estimation. In addition, they demonstrate structural controls that help target future drilling and mining potential through continuous ore zones rather than scattered mineralisation.

The successful intersection of predicted mineralised shoots at Excelsior demonstrates the reliability of Mammoth's geological model. Furthermore, this success increases confidence in expanding the resource base through systematic drilling.

Strategic Drilling Programme Unlocks Value Through Systematic Testing

Mammoth's drilling strategy has focused on testing extensions of known high-grade zones while simultaneously evaluating areas where historical sampling was inadequate. The company has identified a critical insight: previous exploration programmes conducted during lower gold price environments employed highly selective sampling practices that potentially missed significant mineralisation.

    Current Drilling Coverage:

    • 1,100m of the overall 5,000m strike trend tested to date
    • 350m strike length of the Buster Open Pit with 25m average width
    • Mineralisation confirmed to 250m depth and remaining open at depth
    • 9 additional diamond holes totalling 1.3km submitted for analysis

The company's comprehensive approach contrasts sharply with historical practices. For example, historical drill hole TA-2 only selectively sampled and analysed limited intervals, returning 3.1m at 1.38g/t Au and 4.6m at 1.52g/t Au. However, Mammoth's systematic sampling of MEXDD001 at the same location returned 25.5m at 1.05g/t Au, demonstrating the potential scale of previously unrecognised mineralisation.

Previous selective sampling and assaying did not effectively capture all of the mineralisation. Our strategy is to realise this potential and our drill team on the ground is already demonstrating the incredible scale and high grade potential of the project in just our first few drillholes, the company reported.

    Upcoming Catalysts and Development Timeline

With the initial drilling results validating the targeting model, Mammoth has positioned itself for a period of continuous news flow and value-creating milestones. The company's systematic approach enables multiple parallel work streams that should deliver regular updates to the market.

    Near-Term Catalysts:

    • Assay results from 9 additional diamond holes (1.3km of drilling)
    • Maiden Mineral Resource Estimate and Exploration Target (due Q4 2024)
    • Regional sampling results from 83km² land package
    • High-resolution magnetics interpretation and analysis
    • Follow-up drilling testing strike and dip extensions

Moreover, the strategic development programme includes evaluation of Buster Open Pit down-dip potential across 350m strike. Furthermore, testing of multiple silicified zones identified by geophysical surveys will commence alongside regional prospecting across the broader land package.

The company's ability to commence resource estimation work while actively drilling represents an efficient capital deployment strategy. Consequently, this approach could accelerate project development timelines compared to typical greenfield exploration programmes.
