    Taiton Resources Limited (ASX: T88) has announced promising results from exploration activities at the Challenger West and Highway projects in South Australia, with high-grade gold soil anomalies and rare earth element (REE) indicators strengthening the company's exploration targets.

    Record Gold Results from Challenger West Infill Program

    The latest ultrafine soil sampling program at Challenger West has delivered the highest gold-in-soil results to date, with values reaching 210 ppb Au. These exceptional results were obtained from an infill sampling program consisting of 245 samples collected on a 50 by 50m grid within Area 1.

    Area 1 is now defined by gold anomalism over a 1.5km strike length, coinciding with interpreted north-northeast trending structures identified from magnetic imagery. These discrete high-grade gold anomalies will be the focal point of Taiton's upcoming drill program.

    At the Highway project's Yogi prospect, ultrafine soil sampling has identified rare earth element (REE) anomalism broadly coincident with a significant gravity anomaly, supporting the company's exploration model for Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold (IOCG) style mineralization and carbonatite-hosted rare earth elements.

    The sampling program, consisting of 59 samples collected on a 200m by 400m grid, targeted a gravity anomaly with values exceeding 6 mGal and a strike extent of approximately 1.5km. This anomaly sits within a broader 4 mGal gravity anomaly over 5km of strike.

    Further assessment revealed that light rare earth elements (LREE) are dominant within the anomalous zone, a characteristic consistent with carbonatite deposits, which are typically enriched in LREE while heavy rare earth element (HREE) concentrations remain low.

    Understanding IOCG Deposits and Their Significance

    IOCG deposits represent one of the most valuable mineral systems in Australia, hosting world-class operations like Olympic Dam. These deposits form through magmatic hydrothermal activity, resulting in mineralized breccia complexes containing economic concentrations of copper, gold, and sometimes uranium, associated with iron oxides.

    Carbonatite-hosted REE deposits are formed by volcanic activity or intrusive processes in the Earth's crust. These deposits are associated with mantle-derived magmas that have undergone complex differentiation processes. Carbonatites typically form in continental rift zones, hotspots, or areas where the crust is thin and allows mantle material to rise and interact with surface rocks.

    A carbonatite-style deposit is primarily composed of rocks rich in carbonate minerals (>50%) like calcite, dolomite, or ankerite. These deposits are particularly valuable because they often contain high concentrations of rare earth elements.

    The identification of anomalous REE values at Taiton's Highway project, coincident with a significant gravity anomaly, suggests the potential presence of a carbonatite system.
