Iceni Gold Unleashes Major Drilling Campaign at Guyer Gold Trend
Iceni Gold Limited (ASX: ICL) has launched an ambitious 17,000-metre drilling program at its Guyer prospect within the 14 Mile Well Gold Project, strategically positioned between the gold mining centres of Leonora and Laverton in Western Australia.
Multi-Target Exploration Strategy Targets Gold System Under Cover
The comprehensive drilling campaign targets multiple high-potential zones within the Guyer Farm-In area, where Gold Road Resources Limited (ASX: GOR) has committed up to $35 million under a farm-in and joint venture agreement announced in December 2024.
The program has commenced with a 4,000-metre aircore (AC) drilling initiative at Guyer West, targeting a coincident surface gold anomaly along the western margin of the Danjo Granite. This will be immediately followed by a substantial 12,700-metre RC drilling program evaluating multiple targets along the eastern Guyer Trend, including:
- Four structural geochemical targets adjacent to the granite-greenstone contact
- Evaluation of recent high-grade AC gold anomalies
- Two +1,000m long drill traverses straddling the Guyer Ridge to investigate the mafic trend and an extensive concentration of gold nuggets
"We are excited to be back out at Guyer to undertake a major combined aircore and RC drilling program, evaluating not only the main Guyer bedrock gold anomaly but now expanding out to new targets at Guyer West and also over the extensive gold nugget patch at Guyer Ridge," said Iceni Managing Director Wade Johnson.
Building on Promising Results
This aggressive exploration approach builds on encouraging findings from earlier campaigns. Previous aircore drilling along the 11.5km granite-greenstone contact at Guyer identified a significant bedrock gold anomaly beneath up to 40m of transported cover that extends the entire length of the contact.
The Guyer Main anomaly, located at the northern end of the trend, is defined as a large >0.1g/t Au anomaly over a 6km strike length. Recent AC drilling south of the main Guyer anomaly outlined multiple discrete bedrock gold anomalies containing high-grade results, including 6m @ 2.98 g/t Au from 76m in GUYAC0135.
Understanding Granite-Greenstone Contacts
The exploration focus on granite-greenstone contacts at Guyer represents a sophisticated targeting approach based on fundamental gold deposit formation principles. In the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, these contacts often form ideal structural conduits for gold-bearing fluids.
Granite-greenstone contacts create rheological contrasts (differences in rock strength) that can generate zones of structural weakness during tectonic events. These zones often develop into major fault systems or shear zones that facilitate the movement of gold-bearing hydrothermal fluids. Additionally, the chemical contrast between granite and greenstone units can trigger precipitation of gold from these fluids.
This geological understanding explains why Iceni is methodically exploring both the eastern and western margins of the Danjo Granite at Guyer, seeking to identify gold mineralisation potentially trapped along these favourable structural and chemical boundaries.
Strategic Drilling Plan Targets Multiple Horizons
The current program represents a comprehensive, methodical approach to evaluating the Guyer area:
Target Area | Drilling Type | Metres | Holes | Expected Completion |
---|---|---|---|---|
Guyer West | Aircore | 4,000m | 73 | August 2025 |
Main Guyer Trend | RC | 11,000m | 51 | September 2025 |
Guyer Ridge | RC | 1,700m | 17 | September 2025 |
Total Program | Combined | 16,700m | 141 | September 2025 |
Along the main Guyer Trend, 51 RC holes located on five east-west traverses will test priority structural and geochemical targets. Three drill traverses, each approximately 1,000m in length, will test the main Guyer anomaly over approximately a 3km strike length with holes spaced at 100m centres, each planned to a depth of 200m.
An additional two traverses totalling 17 RC holes will test the mafic stratigraphy straddling the Guyer Ridge, where extensive gold nugget finds have been documented but only tested by wide-spaced, shallow AC drill lines previously.
Gold Road Resources Backing Provides Financial Firepower
A significant advantage for Iceni is the financial backing provided through the farm-in agreement with Gold Road Resources. The ongoing exploration program is managed by Iceni but forms part of Gold Road's initial $5 million minimum expenditure commitment within the broader $35 million farm-in exploration agreement.
This strategic partnership allows Iceni to conduct a more comprehensive exploration program than might otherwise be possible, potentially accelerating the timeline to discovery and development.
Strategic Position in a World-Class Gold District
The 14 Mile Well Gold Project makes Iceni one of the largest landholders in the highly gold-endowed Leonora-Laverton district. The project's strategic location is noteworthy – it's situated midway between Leonora and Laverton, within 75km of multiple high-tonnage capacity operating gold mills.
The project adjoins the recently recommenced Laverton Gold Operation, which contains the Jupiter and Westralia gold deposits owned by Genesis Minerals Limited (ASX: GMD). It's also located west of Lake Carey and west of several +1-million-ounce gold deposits including Mount Morgan, Granny Smith, Sunrise Dam, and Wallaby.
Why Investors Should Watch Iceni Gold
Iceni Gold represents a compelling opportunity for investors interested in gold exploration companies with:
-
Strategic Land Position: One of the largest land packages in the highly prospective Leonora-Laverton district
-
Financial Backing: Exploration funded through a substantial farm-in agreement with Gold Road Resources
-
Systematic Approach: Methodical exploration of previously under-explored ground using modern techniques
-
Multiple Target Areas: Beyond Guyer, the company has identified priority gold target areas at Everleigh, Goose Well, and Keep It Dark
-
Experienced Management: Led by Managing Director Wade Johnson and Non-Executive Chairman Brian Rodan, bringing significant industry expertise
The upcoming drilling results, expected to start flowing from August 2025, will be critical in determining the potential scale of gold mineralisation at Guyer. With drilling targeting multiple horizons and both margins of the Danjo Granite, Iceni has positioned itself for potential discovery success in this significant Iceni Gold major drilling campaign.
For investors seeking exposure to gold exploration in one of Australia's premier gold districts, Iceni Gold's systematic approach to unlocking value across its extensive landholding warrants close attention in the months ahead.
