Infini's Strategic Expansion Strengthens Uranium Footprint in Newfoundland

Infini Resources Ltd (ASX: I88) has significantly expanded its Portland Creek Uranium Project in Newfoundland, Canada, increasing its strategic footprint by 68%. Through staking applications for 410 additional mineral claims covering 10,250 hectares, Infini has strengthened its position in one of Canada's emerging uranium districts, bringing its total landholding in Newfoundland to over 25,000 hectares.

    Expanding Across Promising Uranium Terrain

The expansion comes at a pivotal moment for Infini, following recent drilling success that has confirmed the presence of uranium mineralisation at Portland Creek. The newly staked areas are contiguous to Infini's existing mineral claims, securing possible extensions of east-west trending mineralised structures that have been identified during recent drilling activities.

"This is a strategic expansion for Infini at a pivotal time," said Rohan Bone, Chief Executive Officer. "Following the breakthrough of visible uraninite and high-grade molybdenum at Portland Creek, it was essential that we consolidate our position across this highly prospective district. These new tenements strengthen our geological footprint, secure potential extensions of known structures, and provide the foundation for long-term exploration and development."

Recent Drilling Highlights Show Promising Results

The expansion follows encouraging results from Infini's ongoing Phase 2 drilling program, which has returned widespread elevated uranium readings across multiple zones. Notable highlights include:

    • Visible uraninite along joint surfaces in drillhole PCDD25-012 at 270.0m and 289.0m, recording 1.2% and 1.17% uranium respectively (based on preliminary pXRF readings)
    • High-grade molybdenum intersections up to 2.38% Mo within a 4m albatised granite interval in drillhole PCDD25-009A
    • These findings indicate the presence of a fertile polymetallic hydrothermal system

The ongoing Phase 2 drilling program, originally planned for a minimum of 2,500 meters, is now being considered for expansion to efficiently test high-priority uranium targets. First assay results from the program are expected in Q4 CY2025.

Understanding Portable XRF Readings in Uranium Exploration

Investors should understand that the preliminary uranium readings cited by Infini are based on portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) technology, which provides immediate on-site measurements of elemental presence.

While pXRF readings are valuable for real-time exploration decisions, they represent qualitative spot measurements rather than definitive laboratory assays. Factors such as sample heterogeneity, surface effects, and instrument limitations can affect these readings, which is why they should be considered preliminary indicators of mineralisation rather than final grade determinations.

Definitive results will be confirmed through laboratory assays, which Infini expects to receive in the current quarter. This cautious approach is standard industry practice when reporting preliminary exploration results.

Portland Creek: A Promising Uranium Project in a Supportive Jurisdiction

The Portland Creek Project spans 251 km² and lies within the Precambrian Long-Range Complex of the Humber Tectonic-Stratigraphic Zone. The geology consists primarily of metaquartzite and paragneisses intruded by leucocratic granite.

What makes this project particularly interesting is its large regional uranium anomaly, first identified in the 1970s through government lake sediment sampling. Prior exploration has delineated a 6 km zone of anomalous uranium and radon gas that follows a prominent fault scarp, interpreted as a deep-seated fault.

Infini's soil sampling at the Falls Lake Prospect has defined an impressive ~800m x 100m high-grade uranium anomaly, with peak results of 74,997 ppm U₃O₈ (7.5% U₃O₈), positioning this as a highly prospective exploration target.

Next Steps: Integrating Data and Advancing Exploration

Infini will now undertake integration of all available geological, airborne geophysical, and remote sensing datasets across the newly staked tenements to define priority target areas. This work will complement the ongoing Phase 2 drilling program, which continues to target widespread uranium and polymetallic mineralisation at the Falls Lake Prospect.

Investment Perspective: Building a District-Scale Uranium Portfolio

Infini's strategic expansion demonstrates the company's commitment to building a dominant position in what appears to be an emerging uranium district. With a global resource portfolio that includes the Des Herbiers uranium deposit (43.95 million pounds U₃O₈ at 123ppm as an Inferred Resource) and promising exploration projects across Canada and Western Australia, Infini is positioning itself as a significant player in the uranium exploration sector.

For investors watching the uranium space, Infini's methodical approach to exploration and strategic land consolidation represents an opportunity to gain exposure to a company with multiple projects at various stages of advancement in tier-one mining jurisdictions.

As global demand for nuclear energy continues to grow amid the clean energy transition, companies like Infini that are building substantial uranium resource portfolios in stable jurisdictions may be well-positioned to capitalise on favourable market dynamics in the coming years.
