Patronus Resources Confirms Deeper Gold Potential at Tally Ho with Final Pine Creek Assays

Patronus Resources (ASX: PTN) has reported final assay results from a four-hole, 1,432.53m diamond drilling programme at the Tally Ho deposit within its Pine Creek Project in the Northern Territory. The update indicates that high-grade gold mineralisation continues below the historical open pit and outside the current Mineral Resource boundary, reinforcing the case for further exploration at this emerging Australian gold asset.

According to the ASX announcement dated 27 July 2026, all four holes intersected gold mineralisation, including 3.17m at 3.32 g/t Au from 324.83m in TH26DD003 and the previously reported 2.61m at 6.38 g/t Au from 454m in TH26DD001. For investors, the key point is straightforward: the latest drilling appears to support the view that Tally Ho remains open at depth, whilst also identifying additional structural targets between Tally Ho and Fountain Head for follow-up drilling.

"With all four drill holes now assayed, we have confirmed the presence of gold mineralisation well below the historical Tally Ho pit and outside the current Mineral Resource, further increasing our confidence that the system remains open at depth," said John Ingram, Managing Director of Patronus Resources.

Ingram added that the programme also identified "an additional mineralised structural target that was not recognised prior to drilling."

What the Final Tally Ho Drilling Results Showed

The programme was designed to test for a previously unrecognised mineralised zone in the footwall to the Tally Ho lodes, referred to by the company as the Tally Ho Extension. In the report, Patronus said its 3D modelling of historical gold intercepts had suggested the potential for a new mineralised zone outside the existing resource.

The final three holes reported in this announcement — TH26DD002, TH26DD003 and TH26DD004 — returned a further 21 significant gold intersections. These results build on the earlier release from TH26DD001, announced on 6 July 2026.

The main intercepts reported by Patronus are set out below.

Hole ID From (m) To (m) Width (m) Grade (g/t Au) Gram-metres
TH26DD002 98.00 98.53 0.53 11.56 6.1
TH26DD002 225.40 231.40 6.00 1.42 8.5
TH26DD002 272.90 273.55 0.65 3.44 2.2
TH26DD002 285.40 287.30 1.90 1.34 2.5
TH26DD003 209.30 212.50 3.20 1.35 4.3
TH26DD003 313.67 314.00 0.33 12.97 4.3
TH26DD003 324.83 328.00 3.17 3.32 10.5
TH26DD004 245.00 246.00 1.00 2.28 2.3

Previously reported intercepts from TH26DD001 included:

Hole ID From (m) To (m) Width (m) Grade (g/t Au)
TH26DD001 454.00 456.61 2.61 6.38
TH26DD001 285.68 286.30 0.62 7.37
TH26DD001 293.70 294.00 0.30 9.11
TH26DD001 335.98 336.31 0.33 8.55

The standout new interval is 3.17m at 3.32 g/t Au from 324.83m in TH26DD003, which Patronus said sits approximately 150m below the historical Tally Ho pit and outside the current resource boundary. That matters because it supports continuity below the existing pit and resource shell, rather than simply filling in known shallow mineralisation.

Why "Open at Depth" Matters in a Gold Drilling Update

For non-specialist investors, "open at depth" is one of the most important phrases in an exploration announcement — however, it is also one of the most commonly misunderstood.

When a company says mineralisation is open at depth, it generally means drilling has intersected gold at the deepest levels tested and there is not yet enough information to define the lower limit of the system. In practical terms, the mineralised zone may continue below the deepest hole.

At Tally Ho, the reported drilling intersections occurred below the historical pit and outside the current Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE). That does not mean a resource increase has already been delivered. It does mean the new data may support future resource growth if additional drilling confirms continuity, geometry and grade.

Key Terms Worth Understanding

A few useful terms from the announcement are worth clarifying:

  • Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE): A formal estimate of how much mineralisation is present, based on available drilling and geological data.
  • Diamond drilling: A drilling method that recovers a solid rock core, allowing geologists to inspect rock types, structures and mineralisation in detail.
  • Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling: A faster and generally lower-cost drilling method that returns rock chips rather than intact core.
  • g/t Au: Grams of gold per tonne of rock.
  • Cut-off grade: The minimum grade used by the company to include material in reported intersections. In this programme, Patronus reported intercepts above 0.4 g/t Au, with a maximum 2m internal waste.

Furthermore, the company noted that gold mineralisation at Tally Ho is associated with quartz stockwork veining and sulphide alteration across both greywacke and mudstone. In simpler terms, the gold appears linked more to the structural setting and veining than to one specific rock type — a distinction that may widen the search space for further drilling.

Additional Structures Between Tally Ho and Fountain Head Add Another Target Set

One of the more important outcomes from the Tally Ho drilling update is that the programme appears to have identified more than one growth pathway.

In the announcement, Patronus said drilling in TH26DD002 confirmed linking mineralised structures dipping obliquely to the south-west between Fountain Head and Tally Ho. These structures were not recognised before the programme and are now planned to be tested with RC drilling later in 2026.

From an exploration perspective, this is relevant because it expands the focus beyond a single deep extension target. Instead of only testing whether Tally Ho continues downward, the company now has a second area of interest that may link known mineralised trends within the broader Fountain Head area.

That distinction matters to investors. Resource growth can come from extending a known lode deeper, adding nearby parallel structures, or connecting mineralised zones that were previously treated separately. The latest results suggest Patronus may now be assessing all three possibilities.

How Tally Ho Fits Into Patronus' Broader Pine Creek and Group Resource Base

The Tally Ho deposit sits within the Fountain Head area, which includes Fountain Head, Tally Ho and Glencoe. According to the company, this area hosts a combined Mineral Resource of 234,000oz at 1.4 g/t Au.

More broadly, Patronus stated that the Pine Creek Project covers more than 1,500 square kilometres in the Pine Creek Orogen, a region known for gold, uranium and base metals occurrences. Across the wider group, Patronus reported a combined gold Mineral Resource exceeding 1.2 million ounces.

The resource base referenced in the announcement is summarised below.

Project / Area Location Reported Resource
Cardinia Gold Project WA 1.0Moz gold Mineral Resource
Fountain Head area NT 234,000oz at 1.4 g/t Au
Iron Blow and Mt Bonnie NT 0.2Moz gold, 177kt zinc, 37kt lead, 16Moz silver
Total group gold Mineral Resource WA + NT More than 1.2Moz gold

The base metals inventory at Hayes Creek, incorporating Iron Blow and Mt Bonnie, also adds commodity exposure beyond gold. The company reported a combined resource of 445,000 tonnes zinc equivalent and 1,110,000 ounces gold equivalent across those assets.

The 2026 Field Programme Shifts Focus to Execution and News Flow

The drilling update also outlined what comes next. Patronus said its 2026 Northern Territory field programme is well underway following the wet season, with a planned 30,000m of drilling across Pine Creek, subject to receipt of remaining regulatory approvals.

The planned programme includes:

  • 6,000m of diamond drilling
  • 24,000m of RC drilling
  • 3,000 surface geochemical samples

According to the update, diamond drilling is aimed at brownfields resource growth opportunities, whilst RC drilling will test high-priority geochemical anomalies generated during the 2025 surface sampling programme. These targets include both historical workings with limited modern follow-up and newer greenfields prospects.

The near-term activity pipeline is summarised below.

Activity Focus Timing
Follow-up RC drilling Linking structures between Tally Ho and Fountain Head Later in 2026
RC drilling Brownfields and greenfields geochemical targets 2026 field season
Diamond drilling Resource growth opportunities across Pine Creek 2026 field season
Surface geochemistry 3,000 planned samples 2026 field season
Geological modelling Structural interpretation using final assays Underway
Potential deeper diamond drilling Tally Ho Extension Under consideration

The company said geological interpretation, including detailed structural modelling, will now be integrated with the final assay dataset to refine future drill targeting.

What Stands Out for Investors Following ASX Gold Explorers

Several features of this announcement are likely to be of interest to investors assessing PTN among ASX-listed gold explorers. In particular, the reported drilling appears to support continuity below the current Tally Ho resource.

Does the Financial Position Support Further Exploration?

Patronus reported a market capitalisation of $68 million and cash and liquid investments of $75 million as at 30 June 2026. That places the company in the relatively unusual position of reporting cash and liquid investments above its market value at the time of the announcement, whilst also holding a multi-asset resource base across gold and base metals.

Does the Programme Scale Create Ongoing Catalysts?

A planned 30,000m drilling campaign creates the potential for regular assay and exploration updates through the remainder of the year, which can be important for market visibility. Furthermore, the programme did not only test the original concept — it also identified additional linking structures between Tally Ho and Fountain Head, creating a broader target inventory for the 2026 campaign.

None of these points guarantees a resource upgrade or project re-rating. However, what the report does indicate is that Patronus has added technical support to its interpretation at Tally Ho, whilst advancing a broader Pine Creek programme with multiple follow-up opportunities.

Why the Tally Ho Drilling Update Matters Now

This Tally Ho drilling update is relevant because it appears to achieve two things at once. It provides evidence that the known system may continue deeper than the current resource boundary, and it identifies fresh structural targets that were not part of the original map.

For investors, that combination can be more important than a single isolated high-grade result. Deep intercepts can support the case for future resource growth, whilst newly recognised structures can expand the total search area and create additional catalysts.

With the Pine Creek 2026 field programme now active, the next phase will likely depend on whether follow-up RC and diamond drilling can build on these early structural and depth indications. According to the announcement, results are expected to be released as assays are received through the season.
