Koba Resources Uncovers Exceptional Tungsten Grades Across Six Prospects at Mt Garnet
Koba Resources Limited (ASX: KOB) has reported high-grade tungsten rock chip results from its first tungsten-focused reconnaissance program at the Mt Garnet Tin-Tungsten Project in Queensland, with assays up to 13.2% W across six priority prospects. According to the ASX announcement, the results come from 44 rock chip samples collected across the project and are being used to rank targets for follow-up soil sampling, mapping and eventual drill testing.
The update matters because it points to mineralisation distributed across multiple prospects rather than a single isolated occurrence. At the same time, Koba's maiden 3,000m drilling program at the Stannex and Gilmore prospects is continuing, with 19 holes completed for 2,267m and assays still pending.

The reconnaissance program was completed across Koba's broader Mt Garnet tenure, which sits within a 432.4km² package of seven Queensland Exploration Permits for Minerals held through subsidiary Stannum Metals Pty Ltd. In the report, Koba identified six tungsten prospects for immediate follow-up after returning what it described as extremely high-grade assays across each area.

The same program also returned high-grade tin assays from other areas, including 7.7% Sn at Maria and 4.5% Sn at Stannex. Those tin results support the broader view, set out in the announcement, that Mt Garnet hosts a polymetallic system with both tin and tungsten potential.

Standout Prospects From the Sampling Program
Does Starlight Deliver the Highest Tungsten Assay?
Starlight returned the top result from the program with a rock chip sample grading 13.2% W. In the report, Koba said this sits within an 800m trend of tungsten mineralisation where historical rock chip results also include 15.2% W and 2.1% W.
Mineralisation at Starlight is hosted in quartz micro-veinlets within altered granite. About 300m west of the tungsten trend, historical work also defined a separate tin-in-soil anomaly over roughly 500m of strike with a peak assay of 8,000ppm Sn, or 0.8% Sn.
That combination may be important for future targeting. Furthermore, Koba stated that no soil sampling has previously been completed over the main tungsten trend, and the company plans first-pass soil work there in August to help move the prospect toward drilling.
What Does Gows Reveal About the Broader System?
The Gows Prospect produced several strong tungsten results, including 5.4% W, 2.8% W and 1.2% W, over 500m of prospective strike. Koba collected 18 rock chip samples at the prospect, with eight returning highly anomalous tungsten values.
What separates Gows from the other targets is the range of metals reported alongside tungsten. According to the announcement, samples also returned:
- 3.2% Sn
- 35.4% Cu
- 1.6 g/t Au
- 378ppm Ag
- 3,070ppm Yttrium
Koba said this pattern may indicate that Gows forms part of a broader polymetallic system affected by multiple phases of mineralisation. The prospect also has a historical mining record, with most ore reportedly extracted before 1913 and intermittent activity continuing until 1954.
Geologically, the mineralised zones occur as stacked, flat-lying greisen bodies across an area of about 700m x 500m. For investors, that broad footprint may be relevant because it suggests target scale could depend not only on grade but also on continuity and thickness — both of which require further fieldwork and drilling to assess.
Ahmets Confirms Historical High Grades
At Ahmets, Koba's recent work appears to support historical sampling by a previous operator. Earlier results from the area included 9.2% W and 8.0% W, while Koba's new samples included 5.0% W.
The company also reported that all three recent Ahmets samples returned more than 1.0% Sn. Mineralisation is associated with an outcropping quartz-greisen vein ridge extending for about 500m.
This matters because repeatable high grades across different sampling campaigns can strengthen confidence in the geological target, even though rock chip sampling does not establish average grade or tonnage.
Crest, Mountain Maid and Tungsten Knob Add Scale to the Target Pipeline
The Crest Prospect features an outcropping quartz-greisen vein visible along a ridge for 1.5km. Koba sampled just 200m in the central portion and reported assays of 3.7% W and 2.2% W. That limited sampling window leaves most of the structure untested by systematic surface geochemistry.
At Mountain Maid, one recent rock chip returned 1.6% W, while historical samples over 100m of strike reportedly returned up to 5.1% W and 1.7% W. Koba also highlighted coincident tungsten and tin-in-soil anomalies spread across approximately 1km x 1km, with peak historical soil values of 155ppm W and 4,000ppm Sn. The company stated that the prospect has never been drilled.
At Tungsten Knob, three recent samples graded 1.2% W, 0.3% W and 0.1% W. Mineralisation is hosted within a leucogranite dyke up to 40m wide that can be traced for 1.5km. Historical workings and the absence of previous soil sampling or drilling make this an early-stage but relevant target in the broader exploration pipeline.
Understanding Tungsten Grades and Why Rock Chip Results Matter
Tungsten is a hard, dense metal used mainly in industrial cutting tools, wear-resistant parts, specialist alloys and electronics. It is also widely viewed as a critical mineral in several jurisdictions because supply is concentrated and end uses are industrially important.
For non-specialist investors, it is important to separate rock chip grades from deposit grades. A rock chip sample is a surface sample taken from exposed mineralised rock, mine waste or float material. Its purpose is to show that mineralisation is present and to help geologists decide where to do more detailed work.
High rock chip grades can be encouraging; however, they do not measure the average grade of a future mining operation. That requires drilling, geological modelling, metallurgical work and resource estimation. A few key terms in this update include:

Drilling Continues While Surface Work Expands
An important feature of this ASX update is that Koba is already drilling elsewhere within the Mt Garnet project while simultaneously preparing the next wave of tungsten follow-up. The company stated that its maiden 3,000m drill campaign at Stannex and Gilmore has reached 2,267m across 19 holes, with drilling continuing and all assays pending.
This creates two parallel workstreams for the market to monitor:
- Active drilling at Stannex and Gilmore, where assay results are expected over coming weeks.
- Systematic August fieldwork at six tungsten prospects, aimed at defining mineralised trends and generating future drill targets.
Koba also said that after the Mt Garnet drilling program is completed, and subject to receipt of the final permit, the rig is scheduled to move to the Stannary Hills Tin-Tungsten Project to test the Kitchener and Jiminy prospects in a further maiden ~3,000m campaign later in Q3 2026.

According to the field update in the announcement, the August programme is designed to move the six prioritised prospects from reconnaissance toward drill selection. The planned work includes soil sampling, mapping and further rock chip collection.
