  • GoldArc kicks off 11,000m gold drilling campaign at Leonora North

GoldArc Resources (ASX: GA8) has launched an 11,000m aircore drilling program at the Yttria prospect within its Leonora North project in Western Australia. For investors following the GoldArc Resources Yttria 11000m gold drilling campaign at Leonora North, the key attraction is clear: Yttria has never been systematically drilled for gold, despite historical work outlining multiple parallel gold anomalies across more than 4km of strike.

According to the ASX update, the company is testing what it believes may be a large-scale, structurally controlled gold system in the prolific Leonora district. Importantly, while there are no assay results yet, the commencement of drilling creates a defined near-term catalyst, with results expected to be released progressively.

Why the Yttria drilling program stands out

Yttria was previously explored for rare earth elements, including yttrium and scandium, and it already hosts a JORC Mineral Resource Estimate of 15Mt at 490ppm TREO. However, the latest focus shifts attention from rare earths to a potentially overlooked gold opportunity.

GoldArc said historical vertical vacuum and RC drilling had been completed with a rare earth focus, yet the gold results in that dataset were not properly followed up. A later review highlighted broad gold anomalism that is now being directly tested through the current campaign.

Furthermore, this matters because the market often responds positively when a company revisits known ground with a fresh exploration lens. In this case, the GoldArc Resources Yttria 11000m gold drilling campaign at Leonora North is based on existing geological work rather than a purely conceptual target.

Key project metrics investors should know

The main numbers from the update help frame the scale of the opportunity.

    Metric Detail
    Drilling program 11,000m aircore
    Prospect Yttria
    Project Leonora North, WA
    Gold anomaly strike length 4km+
    Historical vacuum holes completed 1,786
Historical dataset analysed previously Less than 10%
Existing Yttria REE resource 15Mt @ 490ppm TREO
GoldArc total JORC gold resource base 200,014oz @ 1.82g/t Au

These figures show Yttria is not an isolated early-stage concept. Instead, it sits within a broader portfolio that already contains defined gold resources, while also carrying its own established rare earth resource.

Historical drilling data has opened a fresh gold target

One of the most notable details is the amount of previous work already completed at Yttria. GoldArc reported that 1,786 vacuum drill holes were drilled between 2021 and 2022, mainly for rare earth exploration. However, the company said less than 10% of those holes had been analysed in a way that captured the gold opportunity.

In late 2024, GoldArc revisited the prospect and systematically collected samples from the field. The top two samples were then submitted to Intertek in Perth for gold analysis using aqua regia digest with MS finish.

That reinterpretation appears central to the current campaign. For investors, this kind of review can be meaningful because it may unlock value from underused historical data.

    Why reinterpretation matters

    • It may reveal opportunity in previously overlooked datasets
    • It can shorten exploration timelines
    • It creates discovery potential without starting from zero

Therefore, the GoldArc Resources Yttria 11000m gold drilling campaign at Leonora North is grounded in prior technical work rather than speculation alone.

Why arsenic, tellurium and magnetic lows matter

GoldArc’s model is not based purely on gold values. The company said the anomalies are associated with arsenic (As), tellurium (Te) and magnetic lows.

That combination is important because these indicators can help geologists determine whether a gold anomaly sits within a broader mineralised system. In addition, magnetic lows may reflect structures such as faults or shears, which often control the flow of mineral-rich fluids.

    What are pathfinder elements?

Pathfinder elements are chemical markers that occur near a target metal and can help guide exploration. In many gold systems, these elements appear alongside mineralisation even where gold itself is harder to detect early on.

At Yttria, arsenic and tellurium are acting as those pathfinders. According to GoldArc, they line up with the gold anomalies and coincide with magnetic lows, strengthening the structural gold model.

For non-specialist investors, the practical takeaway is straightforward:

    • Gold anomalies indicate possible mineralisation
    • Pathfinder elements support geological significance
    • Magnetic lows may point to the structures controlling mineralisation

When all three align, the target can become more compelling.

    Quick glossary

    Term Meaning
Aircore drilling A shallow, relatively low-cost drilling method used to test geochemical anomalies
Pathfinder elements Elements that occur with or near a target metal
Magnetic low An area with reduced magnetic response that may reflect structure or alteration
Structurally hosted gold Gold mineralisation controlled by faults and shears
    TREO Total Rare Earth Oxides

This geological backdrop does not confirm an economic discovery. However, it does help explain why Yttria is now being prioritised.

Management sees a structural gold opportunity

Managing Director Paul Stephen described Yttria as a gold prospect hidden within a former rare earth asset.

“Yttria has been sitting in our portfolio as a former REE asset, but the geochemistry was telling a very different story focused on gold,” he said.

“When you have numerous parallel anomalies running over 4km of strike, with arsenic and tellurium accompanying the gold and every anomaly coinciding with a magnetic low, that is the structural signature we look for in this part of the Leonora district.”

“This 11,000m aircore program is our first systematic test of that gold potential.”

Those comments matter because they show management is interpreting Yttria as more than a single anomaly. Instead, the company sees a coherent structural system with district-scale potential.

How Yttria fits the broader GoldArc portfolio

Yttria sits within GoldArc’s wider Western Australia exploration portfolio across the Leonora and Kookynie districts. The company said its broader strategy is to grow its existing resource base while pursuing new discoveries.

    GoldArc total JORC gold resources

Project Category Tonnes Gold Grade (g/t Au) Gold Ounces
Leonora North, Mt Stirling Indicated 391,000 2.1 26,000
Leonora North, Mt Stirling Inferred 2,158,000 1.6 111,000
Leonora North, Stirling Well Inferred 198,000 2.3 15,000
    Leonora South, Orion Inferred 370,000 2.2 26,409
    Leonora South, Sapphire Inferred 320,000 2.1 21,605
    Total 3,437,000 1.82 200,014

This gives useful context. GoldArc is not relying solely on Yttria for market interest. Rather, Yttria adds exploration upside to an already defined 200,014oz JORC gold resource base.

Alongside the drilling update, GoldArc announced the relinquishment of 10 non-core prospecting licence tenements. According to the company, technical review of those areas did not identify priority targets, with much of the ground interpreted as homogeneous granitic terrain.

    The stated reasons were:

    • reducing holding and compliance costs
    • focusing spending on higher-priority areas
    • improving overall portfolio efficiency

Although secondary to the drilling news, this move may still appeal to investors. Capital discipline is particularly important for junior explorers, especially when budgets are closely watched.

    What investors should watch next

The immediate focus is the execution of the 11,000m aircore program and the arrival of assays. GoldArc said results should be released progressively, which could support regular news flow.

    Expected next steps

    1. Completion of the 11,000m aircore drilling campaign
    2. Laboratory processing of samples
    3. Progressive assay releases
    4. Ranking of the strongest anomalies
    5. Follow-up drilling or refined targeting if warranted

    Near-term catalyst timeline

    Stage What to watch
Current Aircore drilling underway at Yttria
    Near term Progressive assay results
After assays Updated interpretation and anomaly ranking
Possible follow-up Additional drilling on stronger zones

For investors tracking the GoldArc Resources Yttria 11000m gold drilling campaign at Leonora North, assay quality, consistency and scale will be the first real test of the company’s structural gold model.

Why this announcement matters to investors

This announcement is significant because it opens a fresh gold exploration angle at a prospect previously known for rare earths. Moreover, it does so with a sizeable first-pass program and a clearly defined model.

    Several points stand out:

    • New gold focus at an existing asset
    • More than 4km of anomalous strike
    • Support from arsenic, tellurium and magnetic lows
    • First systematic drilling specifically for gold
    • Backing from a broader 200,014oz JORC resource base
    • Visible near-term news flow through progressive assays

The key point, however, is that Yttria is still at the testing stage. No discovery has yet been confirmed.

Even so, the GoldArc Resources Yttria 11000m gold drilling campaign at Leonora North has introduced a credible new layer of exploration interest. If upcoming assays confirm meaningful mineralisation along part of the identified strike, Yttria could quickly become a more important part of the Leonora North story. Until then, the market is likely to focus on the strength of the first results.
