Near-Surface Gold Discovery Bolsters Australian Gold and Copper's Achilles Prospect

Australian Gold and Copper Ltd (ASX: AGC) has announced encouraging shallow gold and silver results from its first-pass drilling program at the Achilles prospect within its South Cobar Project in New South Wales. The program, designed to test near-surface oxide mineralisation, has delivered notable wide, shallow gold and silver intercepts that could significantly enhance the project's economic potential.

Promising Shallow Gold Results Highlight Resource Growth Potential

The recent seven-hole drill program at Achilles has returned several significant near-surface gold discovery at Australian Gold and Copper intercepts, most notably hole A3OX006 which yielded:

    • 30m at 0.7g/t Au & 23g/t Ag from just 16m depth, including:
      • 7m at 1.1g/t Au & 53g/t Ag from 17m
      • 5m at 1.4g/t Au & 33g/t Ag from 37m

These wide intervals of shallow mineralisation are particularly significant for future resource development, as they could substantially enhance project economics by reducing stripping ratios in any potential mining scenario.

The program also identified promising base metal values in fresh rock, including:

    • 2m at 0.7% Cu & 5.8% Pb+Zn from 64m (A3OX002)
    • 1m at 0.6% Cu & 9.3% Pb+Zn from 65m (A3OX007)

AGC Managing Director Glen Diemar highlighted the importance of these results: "The Company's goal since IPO is to discover shallow, near-surface mineralisation and our results from this first pass test are incredibly encouraging. Shallow and broad mineralisation such as this can significantly enhance value in a potential mining scenario."

Understanding Oxide Zones in Resource Development

Oxide mineralisation refers to near-surface material that has been affected by weathering processes. At Achilles, this weathering has apparently created wider zones of mineralisation in the near-surface environment, as demonstrated in hole A3OX006.

This is particularly important for project economics because oxide material:

    1. Is typically easier and less expensive to process
    2. Often requires less crushing and grinding
    3. Can be accessible via open-pit methods with lower stripping ratios

The presence of substantial oxide mineralisation could significantly reduce capital expenditure requirements for any future mining operation, making Achilles potentially more attractive as a development proposition.

    Comprehensive Exploration Campaign Underway

The success of this initial shallow drilling program has given AGC confidence to progress with a more extensive drilling campaign, including:

    1. A larger RC drill program of approximately 20 holes to systematically test the oxide potential across the entire deposit
    2. A separate RC program targeting deeper extensions to the main deposit
    3. Continuation of a large-scale 6,000-metre aircore drilling program along the Achilles Shear Zone, with 209 holes of 340 planned already completed

This multi-pronged approach aims to rapidly define both the oxide resource potential and extensions to the primary mineralisation at depth and along strike.

    Strategic Regional Exploration Advancing

Beyond the focused drilling at Achilles, AGC is systematically advancing exploration across the broader project area:

    • The ongoing 6,000-metre aircore program is testing extensions along the Achilles Shear Zone
    • A recent drone magnetics survey has been completed over the northeast extension of the Achilles Shear Zone and the Kilparney Shear Zone
    • Results from these programs will guide future target generation and drilling

Investment Case: Why Follow Australian Gold and Copper?

AGC presents a compelling investment case for several key reasons:

    1. Near-surface discovery potential: The company has demonstrated its ability to identify shallow mineralisation that could drive favourable economics

    2. Systematic exploration approach: The methodical exploration program combining aircore, RC drilling, and geophysics demonstrates a disciplined approach to target generation and testing

    3. Continuous news flow: With multiple drilling programs underway and more planned, investors can expect regular updates on exploration progress

    4. Strategic land position: The South Cobar Basin location provides access to a proven metallogenic province with substantial past production

    5. Focused management: AGC's team has maintained clear focus on its stated IPO goals to discover near-surface gold discovery at Australian Gold and Copper

The recent results from Achilles reinforce the company's potential to make economically viable discoveries in the Cobar Basin. With drilling ongoing and a solid pipeline of targets, AGC represents an exploration company with genuine discovery potential and a clear pathway to resource definition.

As Glen Diemar noted, "The momentum continues to build at AGC's South Cobar Project," making this an opportune time for investors to track the company's progress as it advances both Achilles and its broader exploration portfolio.
