True North Copper Drills Aquila to 300 Metres as High-Grade Copper Continues at Depth
True North Copper (ASX: TNC) has reported new drilling results from the Aquila Copper-Cobalt-Silver Discovery at its Mt Oxide Project in north-west Queensland, with the standout intercept of 6m at 5.70% copper from 295m confirming that high-grade mineralisation extends materially deeper than previously established. Three new Reverse Circulation (RC) holes have extended the northern high-grade shoot by approximately 100m, from roughly 200m to 300m below surface, and the system remains open at depth.
For investors following ASX copper exploration stocks, the key point in the announcement is not only the grade, but the growing evidence of continuity, thickness and scale. The latest holes sit within an interpreted 250m-long northern high-grade shoot, whilst the broader Aquila mineralised system is described by the company as extending for approximately 1.8km along strike.

The Headline Drilling Results from Aquila
The report outlined three new holes — MOXRC26_008, MOXRC26_009 and MOXRC26_010 — all drilled within the northern shoot. Each intersected broad copper-cobalt-silver mineralisation with higher-grade zones inside wider intervals.
| Hole | Key Intercept | Higher-Grade Intervals |
|---|---|---|
| MOXRC26_010 | 130m @ 0.67% Cu, 0.07% Co, 1.50g/t Ag from 180m | 44m @ 1.54% Cu from 266m, incl. 16m @ 3.67% Cu from 286m, incl. 6m @ 5.70% Cu from 295m |
| MOXRC26_009 | 74m @ 0.73% Cu, 0.07% Co, 3.00g/t Ag from 159m | incl. 11m @ 1.64% Cu from 161m |
| MOXRC26_008 | 31m @ 0.90% Cu, 0.37% Co, 4.6g/t Ag from 68m | incl. 7m @ 1.39% Cu, 0.79% Co from 74m |
The deepest and most attention-grabbing result came from MOXRC26_010, which tested down-dip continuity below earlier hole MOX252. The hole entered a broad mineralised zone from 185m to 306m, with the strongest grades concentrated between 286m and 302m.
That matters because it supports the view that the Aquila system is not confined to shallow mineralisation. Furthermore, it indicates that the higher-grade core may continue below the current drilling envelope.
Why the 300-Metre Depth Extension Matters
In exploration reporting, the phrase "open at depth" is often used, but it carries specific meaning. It means mineralisation has been intersected at the deepest points drilled so far, and the current drilling has not yet found the lower limit of the system.
For Aquila, this has several practical implications:
-
Potential scale remains unconstrained — If drilling continues to intersect mineralisation below 300m, the eventual size of the system could be larger than currently interpreted.
-
Higher grades at depth are encouraging — The best result in this release, 6m at 5.70% copper, sits at the deepest reported interval in the new programme. The company suggests this may indicate increasing mineralisation intensity at depth.
-
Geophysics may not capture the full footprint — True North stated that high-grade mineralisation now extends below the interpreted induced polarisation (IP) anomaly, suggesting the geophysical target has understated the vertical extent of mineralisation.
For investors, this combination of depth continuity plus strong grade is generally more important than a single isolated intercept. Exploration value tends to build when repeated holes demonstrate that the mineral system is both continuous and enlarging.
Educational Section: What These Technical Terms Mean for Non-Specialists
Mining announcements often include technical language that can obscure what really matters. The Aquila drilling update includes several terms worth explaining.
What Is RC Drilling?
RC drilling, or Reverse Circulation drilling, is a common exploration method used to collect rock chips from depth. Compressed air pushes samples back to surface through the drill string, allowing companies to quickly test large targets at moderate cost.
For investors, RC drilling is important because it is generally faster and cheaper than diamond drilling, making it well-suited to outlining the shape and extent of a discovery.
What Is an IP Anomaly?
An Induced Polarisation (IP) anomaly is a geophysical signal that can indicate the presence of sulphide minerals in the ground. Since copper sulphides often respond to IP surveys, explorers use these anomalies to target drillholes.
However, IP is an indirect tool. It highlights a possible zone, but only drilling confirms whether mineralisation is present and how far it extends.
What Is True Width?
A drill intercept is reported as a downhole length, which is the length measured along the drillhole. The true width is the actual thickness of the mineralised body.
True North indicated that Aquila has an interpreted true width of approximately 40m to 60m. That is significant because it suggests the broad intersections are not simply the result of drilling along the mineralised zone at a shallow angle.
What Is a High-Grade Shoot?
A high-grade shoot is a section within a broader mineralised system where metal grades are materially stronger than the surrounding rock. These areas often become priority targets for follow-up drilling because they can have a substantial influence on future resource quality and mining economics.
At Aquila, the company has identified two high-grade shoots within the broader 1.8km mineralised trend.
"These latest results continue to strengthen confidence in the Aquila discovery and reinforce our belief that we're building a significant new copper system at Mt Oxide," said Andrew Mooney, Managing Director.
"The 130m intersection, including 6m @ 5.70% Cu at depth, is particularly encouraging and extends the northern high-grade shoot to approximately 300 metres below surface, where it remains open."
What the Three Holes Add to the Geological Picture
Beyond the headline grades, each of the three holes served a distinct technical purpose in the programme.
MOXRC26_008 was drilled to confirm continuity between earlier holes MOX252 and MOX263. In addition, it extended the main Aquila-style mineralisation about 10m along strike to the south of MOX263 and returned one of the stronger cobalt intervals in the release, including 7m at 1.39% Cu and 0.79% Co from 74m.
MOXRC26_009 was aimed at testing continuity between MOX265 to the north and MOX263 to the south. The company confirmed the hole successfully intersected broad mineralisation approximately 25m north of MOX263 and 40m south of MOX265, with a key result of 61m at 0.86% Cu, 0.08% Co and 3.5g/t Ag from 159m.
MOXRC26_010 tested down-dip continuity beneath MOX252, which had previously returned 72m at 0.55% Cu, 0.16% Co and 5.6g/t Ag from 124m. This hole extended mineralisation by more than 100m down dip, with the strongest copper sulphides recorded in the deeper high-grade interval.
The announcement also described the mineralisation as part of a broad stockwork to sheeted vein hydrothermal system — a large rock volume cut by many mineralised fractures and veins rather than one narrow ore vein. Systems of this type can support both broad lower-grade zones and more concentrated high-grade sections.
Aquila's Growth Since Discovery
The latest update fits into a larger sequence of drill results that has steadily expanded Aquila since its initial discovery. According to the company's prior ASX releases referenced in the announcement:
- 7 July 2025: Aquila was first reported as a new copper-cobalt-silver discovery.
- 18 November 2025: Drilling included 7m at 7.9% Cu.
- 25 November 2025: Strike length reached beyond 900m.
- 17 December 2025: Broader intersections included 59m at 1.77% Cu in MOX255 and 33m at 1.67% Cu in MOX263.
- 20 January 2026: Further drilling confirmed scale and continuity.
- 11 August 2026: The current update extended high-grade mineralisation to 300m depth.
That progression is relevant because a discovery generally gains credibility when successive drilling campaigns continue to add strike, depth or confidence in geometry. Drilling has now tested approximately 750m of strike at Aquila, whilst the wider mineralised system extends for about 1.8km, leaving substantial strike still to assess.
What Comes Next at Mt Oxide
The report made clear that these results are only part of the 2026 drilling pipeline. Further assay results are pending from additional Aquila holes as well as nearby targets.
The next steps outlined in the announcement include:
- Further assays from Mt Oxide over coming months
- Continued drilling at Aquila along strike and at depth
- Regional exploration across targets including Apollo, Acanthis, Ivena North and Rhea
- Technical studies, metallurgy and geological modelling to support long-term project development
Pending holes named in the broader 2026 programme include MOXRC26_011 to MOXRC26_017, as well as MOXDD26_005, MOXRD26_004 and MOXRD26_006. For investors, that creates a visible sequence of near-term news flow.
How Aquila Fits Within True North Copper's Wider Portfolio
The Mt Oxide Project forms part of True North Copper's stated three-platform growth strategy, covering growth, development and exploration across its Queensland asset base.
| Platform | Asset | Status | Key Metrics |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grow | Mt Oxide, incl. Vero and Aquila | Active drilling and project studies | 220kt Cu, 5Moz Ag, 21kt Co existing Vero resource; Aquila extends 1.8km+ and remains open |
| Develop | Cloncurry Copper Project | Pre-feasibility and active drilling | 129kt Cu and 152koz Au mineral resource |
| Discover | Regional IOCG targets | Ongoing exploration | Expanded tenement position near Mt Oxide and Cloncurry |
Aquila remains an exploration story rather than a defined resource. However, the company's existing Mt Oxide and Cloncurry inventories provide important additional context, as Aquila is being advanced within a company that already has development-stage assets and an established regional presence.
Location is also relevant. True North noted that Mt Oxide sits approximately 100km north of the Glencore copper smelter at Mount Isa and about 20km north of 29Metals' Capricorn Copper Mine, placing the project within an existing mining district with access to regional infrastructure.

Why Investors Are Likely to Keep Watching TNC
The latest Aquila results add three material points to the investment discussion around True North Copper.
First, grade remains strong, with the deepest hole returning the best high-grade copper interval in this release. Second, continuity is improving, particularly between previously drilled sections in the northern shoot. Third, and perhaps most importantly, the system is still open — both at depth and along strike — meaning future drilling could continue to expand the footprint.
The current report does not define a resource for Aquila, and investors will need to monitor future drilling to assess how the discovery develops. Even so, the August 2026 update clearly indicates that Aquila is evolving from an early-stage surface discovery into a deeper and broader copper-cobalt-silver system with increasing geological definition.
For ASX copper investors, that combination of high-grade intercepts, growing scale and a clear stream of pending assays is likely to keep True North Copper firmly on the watchlist in the months ahead.
