Patriot Resources Extends Zambia Copper Target Corridor to 5.5km with Two New Drill-Ready Areas

Patriot Resources Limited (ASX: PAT) has reported that ground magnetic and induced polarisation surveys have extended the prospective footprint at its Zambia copper project to approximately 5.5km southeast of the Tonic discovery. According to the ASX announcement, the new work has outlined two additional high-priority targets, Block 1 and Block 2, within Patriot's 100%-owned Licence 27715-HQ-LEL in Mumbwa.

The update matters because it shifts the project story from a single recent copper discovery to a broader, corridor-scale exploration programme. In the announcement, Patriot stated that the expanded geophysical corridor now covers about 163 hectares and supports its interpretation of a possible multi-centre copper system along the Mumbwa-Kitumba mineralised trend.

A Larger Exploration Footprint Is Emerging Beyond Tonic

The company moved quickly after its early July 2026 Tonic discovery, extending geophysical work southeast of the initial prospect. That follow-up has now identified two separate target blocks with coincident geophysical anomalies, mapped alteration and structural features that Patriot considers prospective for further copper mineralisation.

In the announcement, the company described both targets as being associated with granite-syenite intrusive rocks and nearby sedimentary host rocks that show signs of hydrothermal alteration, meaning the rocks have been chemically changed by hot mineral-bearing fluids. For investors, that combination is important because it can indicate an active mineralising system rather than an isolated occurrence.

Managing Director Dominic Duggan commented: "Extending our geophysics program from the Tonic discovery footprint has identified 2 new targets within the Mumbwa-Kitumba corridor. With two new drill targets now defined, we are building a growing pipeline of copper opportunities alongside our recent Tonic discovery, within one of Zambia's most prospective and rapidly growing copper corridors."

Patriot's stated exploration aim is the potential recognition of a multi-centre copper system extending southeast from Tonic, subject to drilling and further work. That wording is important. The new targets are geophysical and geological interpretations at this stage, not drilling-confirmed discoveries.

What Block 1 and Block 2 Show

The ASX announcement sets out two distinct but related target areas. Each has a different geological character, although both are interpreted as part of the same broader mineralised corridor.

Feature Block 1 Block 2
Distance from Tonic ~2.5km southeast ~5.0km southeast
Host setting Syenite-hosted Syenite-sandstone/shale
Main IP signature High chargeability anomalies Multiple coherent IP anomalies
Magnetic setting NE-SW to E-W magnetic lineaments High magnetic zones along structural corridors
Alteration observed Hydrothermal alteration indicators Iron-rich alteration, quartz-carbonate veining
Interpreted mineralisation style Structurally controlled Cu-Ag sulphide shoots Potential IOCG-style Cu-Ag-Co corridor
Interpreted width Not yet defined 20m to 60m locally
Interpreted depth Not yet defined Down to 160m locally

Does Block 1 Point to Focused Sulphide Zones?

According to the announcement, Block 1 is a syenite-hosted target marked by high IP chargeability coinciding with strong magnetic lineaments trending NE-SW to E-W. In accessible terms, this means the surveys are detecting both structural features and areas that may contain sulphide minerals, which are commonly associated with copper.

Patriot also noted that areas of high chargeability with lower magnetic response may indicate sulphide-bearing shear zones. Shear zones are zones of rock movement and fracturing that can create pathways for mineral-rich fluids. If the interpretation is confirmed by drilling, Block 1 may host more focused, structurally controlled copper-silver shoots rather than broad diffuse mineralisation.

How Does Block 2 Compare?

Block 2 is presented in the announcement as the larger-scale corridor target. It contains multiple coherent NW-SE IP anomalies that line up with magnetic highs and interpreted structures. Furthermore, field mapping also identified iron-rich alteration, quartz-carbonate veining and evidence of hydrothermal fluid flow.

The company reported that some of these anomalies are interpreted to be 20m to 60m wide and to continue to approximately 160m depth. While these dimensions are based on geophysical interpretation rather than drilling, they suggest a potentially broader mineralised footprint than Block 1.

Patriot stated that the structural setting at Block 2 includes intersections between NE-SW cross-cutting faults and the dominant NW-SE regional trend. These intersections can be favourable because they may concentrate fluid flow and sulphide deposition into mineralised zones.

Why the Mumbwa Fault Zone Matters

The geological context is central to this update. Both Block 1 and Block 2 lie on the Mumbwa Fault Zone (MFZ), the regional structure that also hosts the nearby Kitumba copper deposit and Target H prospect.

According to Patriot, Sinomine's Kitumba deposit sits about 18km northwest of Tonic and hosts a reported resource of approximately 109.2 million tonnes at 0.96% copper at a 0.35% copper cut-off, based on a 2015 mineral resource update referenced in the ASX release. Sinomine's Target H Cu-Co prospect is reported to be about 7km northwest of Tonic.

For investors, the key point is not that Patriot has proven the same scale or style of mineralisation, because it has not. The significance is that Patriot's targets lie along a known copper-bearing structure with a demonstrated mineral endowment. That raises the geological relevance of the new targets and helps explain why the company is focusing on this corridor.

The announcement also states that Kitumba is Zambia's first recognised Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) style copper deposit, formed by intrusive rocks of the Hook Granitoid Suite interacting with Katanga Supergroup metasediments. Patriot considers the geological ingredients now being mapped across its licence to be consistent with that broader setting.

Tonic Remains the Anchor Discovery

While the new targets are drawing attention, the original Tonic discovery remains the company's only drilling-confirmed mineralised system in the corridor. In the announcement, Patriot repeated the maiden drilling results reported earlier this month, including:

  • 17m at 0.41% Cu, 4.7 g/t Ag and 0.30% Zn from 29m in TBRC03
  • 1m at 2.56% Cu, 62.3 g/t Ag and 0.76% Zn from 55m in TBRC03
  • 1m at 1.44% Cu from 145m in TBRC10
  • 1m at 1.69% Cu in TBRC14
  • 19m at 0.010% Co from 48m in TBRC04
  • 13m at 0.014% Co from 143m in TBRC02

According to the company, these holes confirmed a from-surface Cu-Ag-Zn-Co discovery that remains open at depth and along strike. Patriot also reported that most of the defined IP footprint at Tonic remains undrilled, which is important because it indicates the original target has not yet been fully tested.

That leaves investors with two parallel sources of near-term interest. First, Tonic itself may still expand through follow-up drilling. Second, Block 1 and Block 2 now add additional target inventory across the same licence.

Understanding IOCG and Why Investors Should Care

IOCG stands for Iron Oxide Copper Gold, a deposit type used to describe copper systems commonly associated with iron-rich minerals such as magnetite or hematite, intrusive rocks, and hydrothermal fluids. These systems can also contain other metals such as silver, gold and cobalt.

Patriot's announcement repeatedly links the new targets to an IOCG-affinity signature. That does not confirm the targets are IOCG deposits, but it does describe the style of mineral system the company believes it may be tracking. For investors without a geology background, the key terms explained below provide useful context:

  • IP survey: A geophysical method that measures how well the ground stores electrical charge, helping identify sulphide-rich zones
  • Chargeability: The part of the IP result that may indicate sulphide minerals linked to copper
  • Magnetic lineaments: Straight or curved features in magnetic data that can point to faults, intrusive contacts or altered rocks
  • Hydrothermal alteration: Rock that has been changed by hot fluids, often a sign that a mineral system was active
  • Syenite: An intrusive rock similar to granite that, in this district, is associated with copper mineralisation
  • Structural corridor: A zone of faults and fractures that may channel mineral-bearing fluids

In addition, IOCG-style systems can be attractive exploration targets because they may extend over large areas and carry multiple metals. In Patriot's case, Tonic has already returned copper, silver, zinc and cobalt, and Block 2 is being interpreted as having potential for a Cu-Ag-Co corridor.

What Comes Next in the Exploration Programme?

The announcement indicates that Patriot plans to continue staged exploration from its Zambian operating base. The near-term work programme includes both further drilling at Tonic and follow-up testing of the new targets.

Planned Activity Detail
Phase 2 RC drilling at Tonic Intended to test depth extensions and along-strike growth of the current discovery
Diamond drilling Planned to improve geological and structural understanding using core samples
Block 1 drill testing Now considered a high-priority follow-up target, subject to further work
Block 2 drill testing Also identified as a high-priority follow-up target
Ongoing mapping and interpretation Continued field verification of geophysical anomalies

This staged approach matters from an investor perspective because it gives Patriot more than one potential news catalyst. Results from Phase 2 drilling at Tonic could expand a known discovery, while first-pass drilling at Block 1 or Block 2 could test whether the broader corridor concept holds up in the subsurface.

The Investment Case in Context

Several elements now define Patriot's Zambia copper story more clearly.

First, momentum has increased quickly. Within weeks of reporting a maiden copper discovery, the company has expanded the interpreted target corridor to 5.5km.

Second, the regional setting is established. The project sits along the same Mumbwa Fault Zone as the Kitumba deposit and nearby Target H, although Patriot's own targets remain at an earlier exploration stage.

Third, the project is showing multi-metal potential. Tonic has returned copper, silver, zinc and cobalt, while Block 2 is being interpreted as prospective for copper, silver and cobalt in an intrusive-related setting.

Fourth, Tonic remains open. The announcement states that most of its IP footprint is still untested by drilling, which means the original discovery could grow independently of the new targets.

Fifth, the company continues to highlight Zambia as a strong copper jurisdiction. Patriot noted that Zambia ranked 3rd in Africa on the Fraser Institute 2025 Investment Attractiveness Index, is the world's 7th largest copper producer, and is targeting 3 million tonnes per year by 2031, with copper accounting for 15% of GDP in 2025.

The ASX release also noted that Sinomine's Kitumba project, including a processing facility and copper smelter being commissioned in 2026, is located about 18km from Patriot's project area. That proximity may be of interest from a regional infrastructure perspective, although the announcement does not state any formal arrangement between the parties.

Why This Update Is Relevant for ASX Copper Investors

For ASX investors tracking early-stage copper explorers, the latest announcement changes the shape of Patriot's exploration narrative. Instead of a single discovery target, the company now has a corridor containing Tonic, Block 1 and Block 2, all within one licence area.

The next step is straightforward. Geophysical interpretation and field mapping have defined the targets, however drilling will determine whether these anomalies correspond to economic-style copper mineralisation. Until that happens, the investment case remains tied to exploration execution and upcoming assay flow.

Still, the combination of an open maiden discovery, two additional priority targets and a position on a known Zambian copper structure means Patriot has moved into a more active phase of value testing. According to the company's update, the upcoming Phase 2 drilling and follow-up target work are likely to be the key indicators of whether the 5.5km corridor can support the multi-centre copper system concept now being advanced.
