Basin Energy Unveils Critical Structural Insights at North Sweden Uranium Projects

Basin Energy (ASX: BSN) has completed structural relogging of 48 historical drillholes across its Virka and Björkberget projects in North Sweden, revealing clear mineralising structure trends that will guide future exploration efforts. This work has identified crucial pathways for targeting additional mineralisation beyond the shallow depths of historical drilling.

    High-Grade Uranium Confirmed at Björkberget

Results from re-analysis of two previously reported high-grade samples have returned exceptional uranium values, confirming the significant mineralisation potential at the Björkberget project:

    • Sample BJK004 exceeded detection limits again, returning greater than 5.9% U3O8 from a granite boulder sample with visible yellow oxide staining
    • Sample BJK008 returned 5.4% U3O8 from a rhyolitic and fine-grained granite boulder sample with visible mineralisation

These results validate the company's exploration model and highlight the substantial uranium enrichment present within the project area.

Strategic Core Relogging Program Reveals Key Structures

Basin's meticulous relogging program has examined 48 of 101 total historical drillholes, with detailed structural data now available for 28 priority holes at Björkberget. The company has collected:

    • 137 samples currently at the laboratory for multielement analysis
    • 71 additional samples from Björkberget awaiting shipment
    • Comprehensive structural records from all Virka historical drill core

Managing Director Pete Moorhouse emphasised the significance of this work: "The structural relogging and multielement analysis results are adding a crucial modern interpretation of the variety of mineral systems at play in our North Sweden Projects portfolio."

    Mineralisation Systems Identified

The relogging has revealed distinct mineralisation characteristics across both projects:

    • Björkberget: Primarily brittle deformation with extensive microfracture networks and veinlets containing magnetite/hematite and visible uraninite
    • Virka: More varied lithologies with both ductile shearing (mylonite intervals) and brittle faults

Visual observations have identified intervals with uranium mineralisation occurring as fracture/vein infillings and disseminations, with localised occurrences of sphalerite and nodular sulfides. This indicates potential for polymetallic mineralisation beyond uranium.

    Understanding Vein-Hosted Uranium Deposits

Vein-hosted uranium deposits form when uranium-rich fluids infiltrate structural pathways like fractures and faults. The presence of magnetite-hematite vein stockworks observed in the core is significant, as these minerals often accompany uranium mineralisation and can serve as important exploration indicators.

These deposits can extend to considerable depths, and the mineralising structures identified in the historical core provide essential vectors for targeting extensions of known mineralisation zones. The shallow nature of historical drilling suggests significant exploration upside remains at depth.

    Future Exploration Strategy

Basin Energy's approach of relogging historical core before undertaking new drilling represents a cost-effective strategy to maximise exploration value. By identifying the key structural controls on mineralisation, the company can target future drilling more precisely to locate extensions of known uranium occurrences.

The comprehensive multielement analysis currently underway will also evaluate the potential for green energy metals beyond uranium, including rare earth elements, gold, and base metals that are often associated with these geological systems.

    Swedish Uranium Policy Progress

In a significant regulatory development, the Swedish government's inquiry into overturning the uranium mining moratorium has advanced through the public consultation phase, which ended March 20, 2025. If approved by Parliament, the proposed legislative changes would take effect by January 1, 2026, potentially allowing uranium mining to resume in Sweden.

This policy shift is driven by Sweden's growing need for critical metals to support its green energy transition and heightened security concerns in the current geopolitical environment.

    Investment Perspective

Basin Energy has positioned itself at the forefront of green energy metals exploration in Scandinavia with a portfolio of 9 projects in Sweden and Finland, complementing its 3 uranium projects in Canada's Athabasca Basin. The company's approach combines:

    • Strategic acquisition of historically identified uranium districts
    • Modern exploration techniques applied to historical data
    • Cost-effective exploration through relogging before drilling
    • Evaluation of polymetallic potential beyond uranium

The North Sweden Projects are revealing significant uranium findings by Basin Energy Ltd at surface, with clear structural controls that will guide further exploration. With Sweden potentially lifting its uranium mining moratorium by 2026, Basin is well-positioned to advance these assets toward development as the demand for nuclear fuel continues to grow globally.

Investors should monitor upcoming assay results from the extensive sampling program, which will provide further insights into the scale and diversity of mineralisation across the company's Scandinavian portfolio.
